New Bowl!

.

Yesterday I celebrated the end of my degree by buying a matching bowl and cup from the Whittard's sale.
Breakfast is very ceremonial for me and I always have to have a special bowl for my porridge- it makes it taste that much better. This is my new porridge bowl and morning coffee cup, and it got christened with berry porridge this morning!

Happy Days.

Porridge of the Week.

Welcome to the first of my regular feature- Porridge of the Week!
If there is one strong recurrent theme in my food conversations, it is that of porridge. I have a close band of porridge friends who share this passion, and a wider circle that laugh in my face. I will be broaching the subject of the Perfect Porridge in the near future, but I thought for now I would get the Porridge ball (bowl?) rolling with the first edition of P.O.T.W.

Porridge of the Week #1

Honey, Banana, Cinnamon and Raisin

Category: Flavoured.
Okay, so it's not fancy, but it has literally been my porridge of the week. Its simple, its sweet and its uncomplicated. Who doesn't like sweet and uncomplicated..?

...

P.O.T.W will be divided into either one of three categories; Healthy, Flavoured or Evening. All will be revealed. If you have any recommendations for P.O.T.W that you would like to share, please please do, by leaving a comment. We would really appreciate that! Thanks x

Dinner 12.05.10

Tonight's dinner was using up some leftover fish and lentils from the night before. I cannot stand food wastage!

It was a Ethiopian inspired dish, which I based loosely on a Lentil Wat recipe. The base is made of lentils, onions and celery, seasoned with nutmeg, grated ginger, garlic and curry powder. The fish is poached and then briefly flash fried in the nutmeg/ginger remenants, with a thin coating of whole grain mustard.

My housemates were all cooking pizza this evening and I was really craving something similar after smelling that, but I made it anyway as the fish needed eating, and I'm glad I did. There's something I really love about lentils and celery together.

This dish is so healthy and light I always feel proper Zen afterwards.

I might trot out and buy a mango...

Muffins.

You gotta love muffins- the way they look, the way they make the house smell for hours after baking, the infinite number of recipes to try... And on top of that, they're so damn easy.

A couple of weeks back, my good friend Em and I did some serious baking. The two recipes we tried were white chocolate and raspberry (classic!) and 'breakfast' muffins; a blend of porridge oats, seeds and mixed berries topped with crumbled cereal. Nom.

Anyway, throughout the muffin making, Em and I were brain storming ideas for future muffin making extravaganza's.

Coming soon: Em and Lou's muffin guide. Illustrated.

My First Blog!

Welcome to the first post of my new food orientated blog!
After posting almost daily on facebook about the things I have been cooking and eating, or enthusing about a certain type of fish or fruit, I was recommended by one long suffering friend that I should maybe blog my daily adventures in my own little culinary world.

So I set up Lou Loves Food- it does what it says on the tin!

So drop by if you are perverse enough to actually want to know what I've been cooking recently, or which Supermarket has the cheapest smoked salmon trimmings (Sainsbury's, bizarrely.)

I will also be keeping you updated on my life long quest to find the perfect porridge...

And I hope that if you do drop by, you enjoy it! I'm off to make smoked makerel and salad wraps...
